An update from our Family Law expert Elizabeth Saxby:
"I’ve been reluctant to weigh in with advice for separated parents but we now have written guidance.
For children under 18 they are permitted to be moved between their parents’ homes. However, these are new and unsettling times so people should be realistic, patient and above all kind.
Children are going to be just as anxious as us and will need reassurance and not point scoring. Children need routine and being away from parents for long periods is not going to be good for them, but if the children do need to stay in one home for whatever reason, the parents they are with needs to be flexible in terms of facilitating face time and contact with the other parent regardless of the state of their own relationship.
Be realistic, be patient and be kind."
