The headlines from the glossies (not actual news) reporting that Ulrika Jonsson is separating from her husband reminded me of the question put to me when talking on BBC Radio Wales about 'No Fault' divorce. One of the presenters asked me if this move would likely see the rise of people getting divorced 'willy nilly'. I laughed.
I haven't dealt with any 'willy nilly' divorces over my 14 year career. The headline to Ulrika's story leads with the fact it is her third divorce and so the suggestion is maybe that she has married 'willy nilly'. When you read what she says, she's been in a relationship with this man for 13 years, there are children involved, her husband adopted one of her children. This was an important relationship for everyone involved, so to trivialise it and to judge is just a bit rubbish really.
"I just think probably the last couple of years. I have tried to go through all that, us women are quite good at being introspective and analysing too much. There is always that one thing that tips you over the edge."
